The Defence and Security Accelerator

The Defence and Security Accelerator is a cross-government organisation, created by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), working under the direction of the MOD’s Chief Scientific Adviser. They have been created to find and fund exploitable innovation which supports UK defence, security, economic growth and prosperity. The Accelerator has access to a £800M Defence Innovation Fund, and their competitive environment drives innovation faster and turns ideas into front-line usable products, policies, processes and services.

They are responsible for:

  • funding proof-of-concept research that offers a high potential benefit to defence and security
  • opening up defence and security challenges to the widest possible audience of providers, including those new to defence and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • helping to take Accelerator-funded projects towards market

Their Open Call for Innovation welcomes supplier ideas (technology push) on anything that can add mutual benefit to defence and security.

Royal Air Force Supplier Innovation Programme

Coming Soon: The Royal Air Force Innovation Programme will be launched in 2020. This programme will offer a route to SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) to showcase their innovative services, products and ideas to Air Command. The programme seeks to remove some of the barriers to entering the Defence sector by providing a forum for suppliers beyond the traditional scope of the RAF’s supply chain to present their ideas, research and technological developments, and enabling them to build relationships within Air.

Further information on the Royal Air Force Innovation Programme will be shared via Defence Contracts Online and the MOD Defence Procurement Twitter channel @defenceproc. Watch this space!
